America’s top infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci has garnered sharp criticism from President Donald Trump’s administration after he urged for a change in the US coronavirus combat
plan days before the Election Day.
During an interview with
Washingtin Post on Sunday, Fauci alerted that the State is leading towards
grave danger if it does not make ‘abrupt changes’ in its health practices soon.
“You could not possibly
be positioned more poorly; it’s not a good situation.” Fauci said
referring to the lag in Americans towards safety measures and the stressful
condition health facilities already are in due to approaching winters.
Fauci, who was once coronavirus
response coordinator for the White House task force, also said that he attempted
to brief Trump on the virus outbreak almost daily but the president no longer
seeks his advice.
On the other hand, Fauci has a positive outlook on Democratic candidate Joe Biden’s responsive
approach towards the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fauci’s interview has
caused quite a stir in Team Trump, Deputy press secretary Judd Deere of the White House, in a statement, called out inappropriate politics being
played before elections.
He also lashed out at Fauci
for revealing his political inclination towards Biden by choosing media
platforms to condemn President Trump.
“It’s unacceptable and
breaking with all norms for Dr. Fauci, a senior member of the President’s
Coronavirus Taskforce and someone who has praised President Trump’s actions
throughout this pandemic, to choose three days before an election to play
politics,” he said in a statement.
Trump on the other hand referred to Fauci and other
health officials as “idiots” earlier in October and said that the Americans were tired of
hearing about the pandemic, according to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins and Kevin Liptak
So far, the virus has claimed
more than 230,000 lives in the US, which last week recorded even higher numbers
of cases breaking world record with more than 1 lakh cases registered on Friday.
